Won't Sync With Calendar

Sep 21, 2009 at 8:32 AM

I tried this gadget but for some reason it isn't syncing with my Calendar. My calendar is set to "public".

I entered the HTML URL but it says no events.

I entered the ICS URL, and it says could not load calendar.

Anything that I'm doing wrong?

Hi, thank you for the question. Nowadays has Windows Live Calendar an issue with downloading of ics files. There is an webcal protocol used in url's but you should use http protocol instead.

So here is my testing calendar:

webcal://cid-c5f80b4fe1ff1a4c.calendar.live.com/calendar/test/calendar.ics

and you have to use this URL:

http://cid-c5f80b4fe1ff1a4c.calendar.live.com/calendar/test/calendar.ics

I hope it will work. If it won't could you please send me your link? I would check it for you...

Hi, thanks for the response but I tried the link you gave & even replaced webcal with http in my public calendar's URL but it still says no events to display, even though i've setup an event for tomorrow.

Here is the link to my calendar that I'm trying: http://cid-7a9d87fa129538ef.calendar.live.com/calendar/My+Calendar/calendar.ics

This is weird, it works for me great. Please, try to download the gadget again (I have done during today some bug fixed and improvements.) If it won't help, there could be some problems with internet connection - the gadget could be blocked by firewall for example. The gadget currently ignores negative http response, so it looks like everything is all right, but it doesn't have to actually. I'm developing it currently on Windows 7 and I didn't test it on Vista yet...

If you want to, you can download the calendar file to your hard disc and type the path of the downloaded file into sources in the gadget settings. If it will work, you can be sure, that the gadget can't connect to the internet.

I'm planning to add the detection of connection problems and it should be available in a few days (hopefully)...

Thanks for the feedback!

hi, I really like the idea of this I have been looking everywhere for something like this since I installed 7 the other day.  I don't quite understand the ics url though. How do I set this up properly? i tried going to my Windows live calander I copied and pasted the link in the gadget but it says it could not load.   This is what my link looked like that I pasted in    http://calendar.live.com/calendar/calendar.aspx

So I think i'm doing something wrong or I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I'll try to describe you the process of getting the proper URL of calendar, I hope you'll understand. You have to go to your windows live calendar page first (http://calendar.live.com). Then you have to select one of the calendars listed on the left side. Click on the selected one. Then you'll see the page with calendar settings (pic. no. 1). Focus to section called "Sharing" and click on "Edit sharing". On the next page choose "Share this calendar". Then you'll get some next options. The most common option is the "Send friends a view-only link...". Select that one. Then you have to click on "Get your calendar links" and you're almost done. You should see two links for ICS files now. Click on the first one (the link is called "Import into another calendar application") and you'll get your URL (in previous versions of the gadget you had to replace the webcal protocol with http, but this shouldn't be needed anymore).
Thanks for your question!

After the previous alpha worked brilliantly I'm afraid to say that alpha 3 stopped working for me. It insists that there are no events to display and doesn't highlight any days in the calendar although there are plenty of events in my calendar. Single and recurring..

Hi, I didn't notice any problems, but yesterday was the Live Calendar service a few hours down - maybe there are still some problems (today it looks ok for me). Do you use Live Calendar or another service? Are you getting any warnings during synchronization? Could you please give me an example of your calendar url (it doesn't have to be valid url)? Thanks!
